A complete breakdown of the Backroadz Truck Tent Bundle contents, value, and whether it's the right all-in-one camping solution for your truck.
Quick Answer
The Backroadz Truck Tent Bundle is a solid value for truck campers who want a single purchase that includes the tent, an air mattress with built-in pump, and strap protectors. It's especially worthwhile if you're new to truck camping or want to avoid hunting down separate accessories.
What Makes the Bundle Different From Buying Separately
The main advantage of the Backroadz Truck Tent Bundle is convenience. Instead of piecing together a tent, mattress, and vehicle protection, you get all three in one box. The included air mattress is designed specifically to fit the tent's footprint, so you don't have to guess about compatibility.
The strap protectors are a thoughtful addition—they prevent the tie-down straps from scratching your truck's paint or clear coat. That's a detail many first-time truck tent owners overlook, and it saves you from buying felt pads or DIY solutions later.
Trade-Off: You Can't Customize the Components
Because this is a fixed bundle, you don't get to choose the mattress firmness, thickness, or material. The included air mattress uses a built-in pump, which is convenient but means you're relying on that pump's reliability over the long term. If you prefer a thicker self-inflating mattress or a separate pump, the bundle may feel limiting.
Similarly, the strap protectors are a nice bonus, but they are a simple accessory. If you already have a method for protecting your truck bed, the bundle's added cost for these items may not feel like a value.
Value Comparison: Bundle vs. Individual Purchase
At a catalog comparison price of USD 344.00 and a current price of USD 227.04, the bundle saves you roughly 34% compared to buying the tent, mattress, and strap protectors separately. That's a meaningful discount if you need all three items.
However, if you already own a compatible air mattress or don't need strap protectors (for example, if you use a bed liner), you might be paying for items you won't use. In that case, buying the tent alone could be the better financial move.
Decision Rules: Is the Backroadz Truck Tent Bundle Right for You?
- Rule 1: Check Your Starting Point: If you own zero truck camping gear and want a turnkey solution, the bundle is a strong choice. If you already have a truck tent or mattress, buying only what's missing is cheaper.
- Rule 2: Evaluate the Mattress Fit: The air mattress is sized for the Backroadz tent's floor. If you prefer a thicker mattress or one with separate firmness zones, you'll need to buy a third-party option, which makes the bundle less valuable. Consider whether the built-in pump and standard mattress meet your comfort needs before committing.
- Rule 3: Assess Your Truck Bed Protection: If your truck has a spray-in bed liner or you already use protective pads, the included strap protectors may be redundant. If you have a bare painted bed, they're a useful inclusion that saves you a separate purchase. The strap protectors add value only if you'd otherwise buy them.
- Rule 4: Compare the Price to Alternatives: At USD 227.04, the bundle costs less than buying the tent and mattress separately. But if you find a deal on a standalone tent, the bundle's price advantage narrows. Check current standalone tent prices to confirm the bundle's savings in real time.
